Hetty Sokolowski
St. Joseph School
When you ask Mrs. Hetty Marie Sokolowski what she loves most about teaching, she has no problem answering. “I love that I have the privilege of leading many children in the Catholic faith,” says Mrs. Sokolowski. She incorporates the faith into all of her lessons at St. Joseph School in Collingdale, PA, by working with children from preschool to sixth grade.
It was her faith and love of children that drove her to want to start a preschool program at St. Joseph School. She worked tirelessly and enthusiastically to get the program started, even sewing curtains and painting walls to get the learning area ready. Now, Mrs. Sokolowski teaches 3-, 4- and 5-year-old students every morning. After preschool in the morning, Mrs. Sokolowski teaches reading to St. Joseph’s sixth graders.
Regardless of what age group she is teaching, Mrs. Sokolowski also strives to include life-long skills and learning experiences into all of her lessons—whether it be fire prevention and safety, bullying, the value of good friendships, or the importance of developing solid critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Mrs. Sokolowski’s passion for her work extends beyond the school day as she coordinates numerous school community programs such as the Mothers’ Tea, Donuts with Dad, the Chinese New Year feast and annual Catholic Schools Week celebrations. In her free time, Mrs. Sokolowski enjoys rock climbing, snorkeling and spending quality time with her family.
