Christopher Cassizzi recognizes the value of technology and the ways in which it can enhance a student’s learning experience—making learning more exciting than ever. Mr. Cassizzi works tirelessly to incorporate technology into his daily lessons as a 5th through 8th grade teacher at Holy Innocents Area Catholic School in Philadelphia.
“Technology allows students to interact up close and personally with the subject matter to discover their own answers,” said Cassizzi. “As a Science and Math teacher, I encourage my students to use the Internet and its countless resources to research the answers. This discovery phase encourages critical thinking and teaches them how to use all of the various online resources, which will be critical as they mature.”
Mr. Cassizzi’s passion for teaching began with an earlier career in the field of behavioral therapy, where he worked with children with emotional needs. He has since worked in Archdiocesan schools for 12 years. “For me, working with kids is like having found the fountain of youth,” said Cassizzi. “My students keep me connected to the larger world, and wanting to teach them all that I can drives me to constantly challenge myself.”
Mr. Cassizzi doesn’t stop teaching when the school bell rings. He is also the Science Curriculum Coordinator, moderator of the after-school Sudoku club, and Planning Assistant for the 6th grade Academic Bowl.
When he’s not in the classroom or helping with extra-curriculars, Mr. Cassizzi enjoys reading, spending time with family and friends, and watching cooking shows.
