St. John the Baptist

When it comes to any project involving technology, the students and faculty members of St. John the Baptist School know that Cathy Capozzi is just the person for the job.
For the past six years, Ms. Capozzi has been the Computer Technology and Accelerated Math teacher at St. John the Baptist. It’s quite obvious that Ms. Capozzi integrates technology into her classroom everyday, but what makes her a Technology Star is her approach to teaching her students about the technology they have the privilege to use. On a daily basis, Ms. Capozzi encourages her students to collaborate and interact with one another through technology, offering students a real world experience. By doing so, students are able to witness the effect technology has on their everyday lives, thus preparing them for the integral part technology will play in their adulthood. For instance, Mrs. Capozzi often includes lessons from Math, Science and English in her computer technology class—allowing students to make connections across subject lines.
Beyond her own classroom, Ms. Capozzi is constantly thinking of creative and innovative ways in which technology can be used throughout the St. John the Baptist school community. Not only has she held in service days for teachers to learn the school’s new network design, but she has also helped the Home and School Board to create the school directory using technology, paving the way for a more efficient process for years to come.
Ms. Capozzi is involved in a number of extra-curricular activities including the Beading Club; Robotics Club; Math Counts Club; Chess Club; Theater, Scenery, Costume, and Design Set Club; the school newspaper and yearbook.
In her free time, she enjoys designing jewelry, painting, and cheering her favorite team, the New York Giants, to victory!
