Learning Disabilities Programs

The Archdiocese also has regional learning disabilities programs at both the elementary and high school level for students with diagnosed learning disabilities. Students in the Archdiocese’s LD programs are challenged to learn self-acceptance, self-discipline, cooperation skills, consistent work habits, and become responsible members in the community.

Elementary Sites

St. Anselm, Northeast Philadelphia
St. Donato, West Philadelphia
St, Dominic, Northeast Philadelphia
St. Martin of Tours, Northeast Philadelphia
Holy Cross, Springfield
Our Lady of Fatima, Secane

The elementary LD programs are designed to help students who have a diagnosed specific learning disability in the areas of listening, thinking, speaking, reading, writing, spelling, and math calculations. Children who participate in elementary learning disabilities programs at these schools are “mainstreamed” (put in a regular class) for all subjects except reading and math. Specialized learning disabilities teachers help students to learn strategies to help them succeed in all subject areas, and provide any accommodations students need.

Secondary School Sites

Archbishop Ryan High School, Northeast Philadelphia
Monsignor Bonner/ Archbishop Prendergast High School, Drexel Hill

Students in the high school LD programs are rostered into regular high school classes except for one class, a Learning Strategies period (considered a one-credit course each year). During this period, students work with a learning disabilities teacher to master specific strategies to help them succeed in the classroom.
